Little Warley Common was used by local commoners to graze their cattle up to the end of the 19th century. After grazing stopped it filled with trees and is now mainly woodland – principally oak and birch which are 'pioneer' species quick to colonise new territory.
Some more open areas remain both at the northern end where it meets Hartswood and at the southern end near Little Warley.
Like Hartswood, Little Warley Common is managed by Brentwood Council. Both are good places to head for on busy summer weekends if you want to avoid the crowds in Thorndon Country Park.
Visiting
Adjoins Thorndon Park North. Access from there or from Hartswood Road, The Avenue or Childerditch Lane. SatNav: CM13 3RZ.
Brentwood railway station is about 2km (via Hartswood and Little Warley Common) from Thorndon North. Buses from Brentwood Town Centre run to Eagle Way, Warley.
Accessible at all times.
